How do the meetings work?
We meet every Friday morning at the Isca Centre, Summer Lane, Whipton, Exeter. If you don’t know it, it’s right next door to the Exeter Arena, just off Summer Lane in Whipton. It’s a great venue with lots of room and enables us to keep things nice and informal.
It also has the added advantage of almost unlimited parking right outside and it’s also handy for the ‘B’ bus in Summer Lane or the ‘D’ or ‘C’ buses just up the road in Beacon Heath.
What’s the meeting format?
We start with informal networking and tea/coffee before the formal part of the meeting convenes at 7.30am. The format varies from week to week but we normally begin with a 60-second presentation from each attendee in which they introduce their business and update the group on any news.
We then break for a hearty breakfast (a full English or granola and fruit) and the meeting concludes with a 20-25 minute presentation from a member or a guest speaker. At least once a month the format is changed and instead of a speaker, we hold an open surgery session (‘fears in a hat’) where members can air their business challenges or questions and use the group as a sounding board. This is a great opportunity for members to use the combined business experience and skills of the group to help them solve issues. We like to think of it as access to your own non-executive board.
Meetings usually finish formally at 9.00am but, thanks to Isca’s relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, meetings between attendees often stretch on into the morning.
Not sure if it’s for you? Well, there’s only one way to find out – come along and join us on a Friday morning. Just drop us a note through our contact page.
